  How to Make Homemade Broth for Your Dog’s Food Many dog food recipes do not include broth as a necessary ingredient. You don't   have  to make homemade broth for your dog food, but I personally found that if I wanted Dezzzzi to eat the rice and vegetables portion of the food, I needed to do everything in my power to make them as delectable as possible.  Once I started cooking them in homemade broth, she started cleaning her plate. Before, she would either pick out the vegetables or rice as best as she could, or she would only eat half of the meal and leave the rest (hoping I would add something special to convince her to eat the rest). While I am definitely not stingy with treats and toppings, I didn't feel good about her eating food that had been sitting out all day.  It was my experimentation with different ways of cooking her food to get her to eat all of it (cause the nutrients!) that let me to making broth at home and using it to add more flavor....

About Us

Derpy Derps was started after I met my now-husband and he brought Dezzzzi into my life. She was the derpiest derp of a dog I had ever met and I just couldn’t get enough of her! Once she moved in with me, I got to witness her silly, adorable moments all day, every day. As our family is growing, so too is the number of derpy dogs in our lives. I wanted a platform to share the knowledge we are picking up as we struggle through doing the best we can for our fur-babies, while also sharing the love and joy Dezzzzi and her friends have. 

Follow along with us as we learn how to be the best dog-parents we can be to some lovably mischievous pups. I’m hoping Dezzzzi and the gang and their antics will bring you as much joy as they do for us. 

Meet the Gang




Dezzzzi (yes, with 4 Z’s) is queen derp. Just look at that face! I have never owned a blood hound and her laid back, goofy personality is the best thing ever. She loves to nap, sleeping an average of 16 hours a day, but is ready to jump up and go hiking for hours at a moment’s notice. She’s a gentle couch potato that can hoof it when need be. 







Kona (a.k.a. Kona Bologna) is Dezzzzi’s cousin and bestest friend of all time. She enjoys rough-housing with her cousin, barking at every outside noise, and stealing socks. 










Shadow is Dezzzzi’s youngest cousin and cares only for his ball. Futbol is life!!
